Crime/ Thriller films originated in the early 1900's with films such as the great train robbery (1903) and the adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1905) and has been one of the most popular and enduring genre's of all time, it was widely popular then and is extremely popular now. The main film production companies in this genre are Warner Bros , Lionsgate and paramount. Some of the most famous Directors and Actors in the world have originated from this genre or have done some of their most famous work in it featuring people such as ... Quentin Tarantino , Martin Scorsese , Francis Ford Coppola, Johnny Depp , Brad Pitt , Al Pacino , Uma Thurman , Samuel L Jackson . All of which are top names in the film industry and who have done famous work in the crime genre.
Some key Characteristics that regularly occur in Crime/Thriller films are Violent , Egotistical , Romantic , Avaricious and Impulsive behavior. Because they need to normally play people who are immoral or are in close contract with really immoral people therefore these would be normal attributes in the criminal underworld. Crime films normally have lots of style , especially films/TV series like boardwalk empire or The Godfather where they are set in 1920-1960 in places like Chicago or Italy, they are filled with bright excessive costume , whiskey and cigars and lots of guns and girls.
The Genre has been constantly popular and looks like it will continue to be one of the more popular genres because of big named talent and skill that like to indulge and create this genre.
